Location: Rochester Hills, MI

Some assignments are out of town for short periods to longer durations.  Candidates from any part of the Country will be considered for this position for assignments on out-of-town projects.

Summary

We are a mid-sized consulting engineering and surveying firm seeking experienced crew chiefs for challenging work.  Some typical projects include standard construction layout, topographical, and boundary surveys for private and public clients including contractors, municipalities, airports, and MDOT.  In addition to these, we focus on complex construction layout on heavy-civil, commercial, and industrial projects on sites such as manufacturing plants.

Typical Duties

Important responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Operation of survey equipment
  • Operation of utility locating equipment
  • Operation of trucks and ATVs as required
  • Organizing and maintaining regular service of vehicles and equipment

Skills, Knowledge, Qualifications, and Experience

The ideal candidate will have a minimum of five to ten years of experience as a crew chief.

Extensive experience on building layout is desired.  This would include: establishing precise column line control; performing anchor bolt surveys; marking proposed column and beam locations on piers and embed plates; performing crane rail surveys; layout for anchor bolts, piers, foundations, and structural steel; layout for glass and curtain wall construction; and measurements for structural steel erection including checking column plumb, pour stop locations, and other details.  Must have a thorough understanding of reading and interpreting plans and details including civil, structural, and architectural plans and fabrication drawings.

General understanding of construction safety practices is required.  Ability to work at heights and work from and operate aerial platforms such as boom lifts is desired.  Skills with computers and technology is highly desired.  Experience with robotic total stations and GPS units is required.
