Nicholson Nature Center

Spalding DeDecker (SD) was retained by the Office of the Macomb County Public Works Commissioner to provide Design, Layout Staking, and Construction Observation for this unique pathway project.

The new nature center includes 144 feet of boardwalk, two pedestrian bridges, sections of limestone pathways and areas of bituminous path, two forest classrooms, a restroom building, and a riverside overlook platform.

Partial funding was provided by the Nicholson family.  SD provided assistance to the County to obtain necessary additional funding through the Michigan Natural Resources Trust Fund grant program.  This program is sponsored by the Michigan Department of Natural Resources.

Bridge Construction Engineering

Spalding DeDecker provided full-time construction observation for the duration of site construction.  We were responsible for the day-to-day observation of the field operations.  SD provided daily construction observation reports produced in FieldManager along with digital photos. This FieldManager information was used to track the project item quantities and prepare Contractor Pay Estimates.  Construction engineering and contract administration ensured that all of the elements of the plans were constructed to specifications and completed within the budget.
